Computer programmer seeks career change, advice sought?

I've been a computer programmer for nigh on 8 years but don't actually like doing it. I am not a ';techie'; and just sort of fell into computers. What are my options based on the fact I can't go back to school (supporting wife and kids). I love to teach and organize people and have extensive volunteer experience in that area, so training or management would be an option, although the thought of project manager, for example, does not excite me. What options are out there for a computer programmer to make a career change without going back to school?Computer programmer seeks career change, advice sought?

Hi Richard,

My story is exactly your story. I also worked as a computer programmer, a ';techie';, for over 20 years. I too needed to make a career change while supporting my wife and 2 kids.

I first tried real estate investing and did rather well for a few years until the real estate market went south and financing got tight. I then again changed my career path but found a way to leverage my computer skills.

I began learning affiliate marketing and I honestly believe you should take a serious look at this avenue. You can make a very attractive income, you don't need to go back to school, you can work from anywhere in the world and because you are a ';techie'; you have a huge advantage over many other affiliate marketers.
