Seeking advice on relocating to Austin from Chicago?

I currently am contimplating a move to Austin from Chicago for a job offer. How does the cost of living, crime etc compare to Chicago? I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago now and looking to see where would be comparable spot in Austin. Company is located off Mopac expresswaySeeking advice on relocating to Austin from Chicago?
Austin is a great town. Cost of living is waaaaay lower than Chicago plus no state income tax!! The crime is very low especially considering that Dallas, Houston, and my hometown of SA have high crime rates these days. The only negative is the city was poorly planned and TRAFFIC IS HORRENDOUS!!! I think the city's growth caught everyone by surprise so the roads and mass transit is lacking badly.Seeking advice on relocating to Austin from Chicago?
I'm from Austin and spent 4 years living in Chicago (I love Chicago!) In Austin, you don't necessarily need to live in the suburbs to have some green space - so your commute could be shorter.... On the other hand, if you want to live out in the suburbs, there are certainly plenty of them springing up. ... I don't know if you would maybe want to try Northwest Austin someplace, or more in town, in part of Old West Austin (I will tell you that old Austin would always get my vote because there's so much more to do). The cost of living in Texas is less than in a lot of other states. Austin is supposedly relatively high for Texas, but still it may be less. You will spend less money on coats and boots, that's for sure - the weather is a lot better. Austin doesn't have Chicago's great theater scene, but it still gets some good arts stuff from time to time-- check out the Performing Arts Center at the University of Texas, and Zachary Scott Theater -- and of course there's tons of good music. There's no Art Institute of Chicago but at least now there's the Blanton Art Museum at the University of Texas, though admittedly this is no substitute at all and you really have to drive to San Antonio for a good museum (that's 90 miles). There are plenty of good restaurants and I've never felt unsafe in Austin, I think the crime rate is pretty low.
I don't know Chicago very well, but Austin is AWESOME! It's bicycler friendly. The trees and rolling hills are beautiful. The people are friendly. The restaurant business is very competitive - which translates to the customer getting more food for his/her money and fair prices in restaurants. Sixth Street is always entertaining. It's culturally rich. The music scene is outstanding.

I don't know much about the living areas, but I did want to tell you that you will love living in Austin! I have quite a few friends living in the area and don't know anyone who doesn't love it.
I am from Chicago and currently live in Houston, but have friends in Austin and they love it! The crime rate is low and it seems like people love to live there. The cost of living will definitely be cheaper than in the NW burbs of Chicago (or for the same money, you will get much more bang for your buck in Austin as far as housing). Of course, the weather is much warmer/hotter in Austin than Chicago. But I guess the trade off is less of the winter snow:) Good luck with your decision!
I love Austin! You will find the cost of living MUCH less and the crime rate is better. Austin has a great music scene and the restaurants are really coming around. You will definitely like the warmer climate!
its cool good place to ride bikes motorcycles in the hills really kid friendly no crime mopac is good.
Austin is much smaller, less expensive and hotter in the summer.

Austin is a great place to live and safer than Chicago
