Travel by car from Mumbai to Kolhapur (suggestions/advice sought)?

I am planning to travel from Mumbai to Kolhapur by road. I will be traveling with my family (wife %26amp; my parents). I plan to use my car and only I can drive. I have heard NH4 is very well maintained road beyond Pune too. I would like your special suggestions/advice about the planned travel, time to start from Mumbai, frequency / places of halts during the journey, any special precautions to taken for the car (I use petrol Wagon R).Travel by car from Mumbai to Kolhapur (suggestions/advice sought)?
This is nice journey. Drive Slowly. It is nice road. but lots ghat section. Other then that nothing to worry. Day time traveling is betterTravel by car from Mumbai to Kolhapur (suggestions/advice sought)?
This is a long drive. Prepare yourself mentally.





Use Mumbai-Pune Express highway to cut down on travel time. Less traffic allows you to cut time - no need to be in 100+ driving speed range. The Expressway takes out even the Pune city traffic as it will take you to Katraj ghat sections.





Start early - drive at a comfy speed - take stops every 2 hours or so - you will reach Kolhapur in much better mind frame.





Beware of curves ( since u r in Wagon R ). Slow down near curves.





Try filling up the petrol tank upto max 2/3rd capacity. Though it means more stops at petrol pumps, it means less load to carry.

Mumbai to Kolhapur by road is approximately 385 kms and would take about 8-9 hours to reach. If you are the only driver, I hope you have the stamina to drive this much in a single day. I feel you should leave early morning by 5- 6 am to beat the morning Mumbai traffic and you would reach Kolhapur by 2 or 3 pm. Ensure you car has enough coolant, check air pressure in the tyres. Surely check the extra tyre in case of puncture etc. Hope you have a 'car jack';.

4 3rd Right onto Mahatma Gandhi Rd, go 2.6 km.
