I'm 14 years old and I love dogs. I want to get involved with helping out in dog kennels and stuff, but all the well known ones like Dogstrust only takes in volunteers aged 18 and upwards.
Any suggestions?14 year old seeks advice on helping out in dog kennels/dog homes etc...?
You could try some dog walking some small dogs first just to get the trust of your neighbors and maybe dog care in your home of one or two dogs at a time. Good experience. Some dog trainers will let you sit in on classes too.14 year old seeks advice on helping out in dog kennels/dog homes etc...?
I tried to get into the spca when i was 16 or so. They turned me down because i was underage and they worried that if i handled the dogs I might be bitten and there would be a lawsuit. :/
I agree with the above poster, you can probably help the shelters/kennels with sweeping, cleaning and maintenance to show them that you are mature and responsible. If you show that you are comitted, maybe they will agree to let you handle the dogs when you turn 15 or 16. Good for you for wanting to help!
your to young at the moment but why not try dog sitting for people in your area and you can make some pocket money at the same time
well, u could still volunteer at your local dog shelter...usualy they let people younger than 18, wash dishes for dogs and help prepare meals... every little thing helps! u could also give donations of food or blankets to the shelter... it really makes the animals happy. Or if u have a dog, u could join a dog 4-H club.
A lot of recues and shelters will allow you to help at your age if you have written parental consent. Go to the local rescue website and look for the link to volunteer forms or call you local HUS or shelter and ask the guidelines. Also there is a place on the petfinder website to post volunteer info so that rescues in your area can see your info. Thank you for wanting to help and just keep searching until you find your spot to lend a helping hand. Wish you were in TN, sibes can always use LOTS of brushing:)!
im sorry but to do anything your going to need training and you will need to be at least 17 or 18 even volunteers need training...and just to let you know it would be illeagal for anyone to let you work at a kennel under age
hang around someone who works there and volunteer to sweep up and stuff....when they see youare reliable and serious they might make an exception...
get the phone book out and start making calls... also try you local SPCA...
